Vintage French cut diamond bands like this one are extremely rare and difficult to find! Such coveted pieces rarely re-enter the market because they usually remain in personal and heirloom collections! French cuts as we know them were first cut during the 17th century, but some experts trace early versions back to the 14th century! French cuts became extremely popular again in the 1920s and 1930s because of their geometric design. They have come back into fashion lately and some cutters have been cutting modern versions, however, original vintage French cuts like these have a charming irregularity that cannot be reproduced. This beautiful platinum, channel set specimen is a size 5 and cannot be sized. It has approximately .75ctw of diamonds and at some point, a French cut was replaced with a carré cut stone. This is only noticeable if you look very closely. The band is 2.3mm wide and rises 2mm from the top of the finger.
