These impressive earrings date back to the 1940s when the use of platinum was prohibited for non-military usage and jewelers turned to platinum's close cousin, palladium! Palladium is a gorgeous and durable metal, but is much more labor-intensive (and expensive) to work with than platinum or gold, which is one of the reasons that it is not commonly used in jewelry today. Palladium is a lighter metal, making it perfect for creating substantial yet comfortable earrings like these. These spectacular earrings are 1.57" long and contain an estimated 1.55-1.75ctw of single cut diamonds (estimated G/H/I color and VS1-VS2-SI1 clarity), and two beautiful sapphires measuring 10mm x 8mm and with an estimated total carat weight of 1.75ctw. The sapphires are a dark blue green and one of them exhibits visible inclusions, one of which extends to the surface of the stone. There are also some small abrasions commensurate with age, but they do not detract from the beauty of these earrings, especially when they are on the ear. The leverbacks are secure and comfortable and each earring weighs 4.6 grams.
