Songbird Sara Jewelry

This strikingly romantic and unique antique pendant c.1920s features on one side a small and beautifully detailed small brown butterfly mounted over a vividly iridescent Blue Morpho butterfly wing, and on the other, a beautiful portion of butterfly wing with shades of brown, surrounding a pop of vibrant blue. These antique specimens are securely preserved and protected within this beautifully carved gold filled and crystal pendant. The pendant measures 1.23” wide and 1.58” long including its bale. This piece is in excellent antique condition and has obviously been well cared for. Butterfly wing jewelry and decor was very popular during the early part of the 20th century. While not the first or only person to create jewelry of this sort, Thomas L Mott is credited with putting this style on the map when he showed blue morpho butterfly jewelry pieces like this one at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924. While the Blue Morpho butterfly originates in South America, they were brought to England in the 1920s where they were raised on farms.
