Songbird Sara Jewelry

This beautiful antique Victorian brooch c. 1850s-1860s beautifully detailed engraving throughout with taille d'épargne enamel. It is named for the character Béatrice in Berlioz's opera Béatrice et Bénédict, which premiered in 1862. (The opera is based on a subplot of Shakespeare's  Much Ado About Nothing.) This charming brooch is crafted from 10k gold which has a beautiful patina and a lovely rosy hue. There is some slight enamel loss on some of the small flowers, but this is not noticeable unless you inspect it very closely and does not detract from its beauty. Its defining feature is a hinged portion on the bottom which adds lovely movement to the piece. This brooch measures 3.8cm x  4cm (1.52" x 1.57") and weighs 6 grams.
