This beautiful antique bug pendant from the late Victorian/early Edwardian era is named for Jupiter, who in Jacques Offenbach's 1874 comic opera Orpheus in the Underworld, seduces Eurydice while transformed into a fly. Together they buzz a duet, singing a meandering tune on the sound "zzzzzzzzzz". While the concept is hilarious, it's difficult to resits being seduced by this bejeweled critter! Crafted from 14k yellow gold and sterling silver, it features the most charming array of old mine cut and Peruzzi cut diamonds, a beautiful pearl, and a garnet cabochon. The garnet shows wear and has an array of cracks, but is held very securely in its setting and is structurally sound for decades of additional enjoyment. This beautiful piece was most likely a stick pin conversion and I love how the jeweler used the stick pin itself to create this elegant slide! This piece measures 23.65mm from wing to wing, and 25.75mm from foot to foot. It weighs a total of 3.4 grams.
