Songbird Sara Jewelry

This beautiful engagement ring is a fantastic value and a perfect ring for the bride who wants a classic style with some really interesting history! This ring, stamped "Lady America" dates back to the late 1940s toward the end or just after WWII. It has a 14k yellow gold band and gallery, with the head of the ring crafted from palladium. Palladium is a precious metal that is very similar to platinum. Platinum was deemed a "strategic metal" in the war effort and the use of platinum for any non-military purpose was illegal in the US during WWII. Palladium became the preferred substitute over white gold because of its durability and bright white color. Today, palladium is an extremely valuable metal due to its use in catalytic converters. The price if palladium continues to skyrocket!

My favorite feature of this ring is the way the setting enhances the center stone and creates the illusion of a much larger. The center diamond is a beautiful early modern round brilliant of approximately .15cts/.20cts, however, the bright floral setting makes it look like a diamond of 2 to 3 times the size. The "side stones" are in fact not stones at all, but palladium that is cut to resemble small diamonds. This ring has a lot of presence on the hand and lots of sparkle and flash at a great price. It also features spring-loaded sizers in the top of the ring that keep it from spinning. This feature would have been very innovative for the day, and I'm surprised the trend didn't stick. They are a great alternative to sizing beads! This ring is currently a size 6.5 and easily sizable.
