These striking 14k vintage earrings were made c.1940s, and are a revival of a revival. They are made in a Victorian Etruscan revival/Egyptian revival style, while also being unmistakably retro! I love how vintage revivals blend so many of the vintage and antique styles we love and give us wonderful insight into the time in which that piece was made. There was a big Victorian revival movement in the later half of the 1940s directly following WWII. In this post-war period, before the opulence of the 1950s, jewelers made do with the resources they had. Victorian jewelry styles tended to include more metal and fewer precious and expensive gemstones, and also highlighted yellow and rose gold. Victorian jewelry styles also featured ornate granulation, ropes, scrolls, open work, and other filigree techniques (as seen in these earrings) which made simple designs all at once something very special and full of interest. These beautiful earrings feature lovely large pale purple amethysts, each measuring 9.81 x 8.27, which are set in 4 tab prongs and surrounded by beautiful rope detail, open work, and feather edges. The gold has a lovely light patina which sets off the amethyst beautifully and highlights the different textures at play. They are 1.34 inches long and .59 inches wide, and have posts with backs. When worn, the earrings hang approximately 1 inch from the bottom of the earlobe.
