This sweet example of milk tooth jewelry comes to us from Berlin, Germany and features a baby tooth set into an 8k gold thistle stick pin! 8k was a commonly used alloy in Germany during the time and is still used there today. The thistle is a symbol bravery, courage, perseverance, loyalty, protection, and is a common motif in jewelry of the era. (Though it is humorous to note that  in Victorian flower language, an actual thistle given in a bouquet would have been a warning against intrusion or unwanted meddling.) Perhaps the symbolism works two fold as it celebrates the strength and courage of the mother and also discourages unwanted meddling and unsolicited parenting advice from others. This stick pin is in very good antique condition. The tooth does have some fractures, but is held firmly in place in its setting and is structurally very sound. The pin measures 2.61" long and comes with a secure stopper. The stopper is not gold, but has a nice patina and matches the look quite nicely.
