German "Vegetable Rings" like this one (c.1920s-1930s) were born in the 1920s as a counter movement to the white metals and architectural, geometric designs that prevailed in the jewelry of the Art Deco movement. The Gemüsering on the other hand, showcases naturalistic depictions of leaves, and flowers of gemstones and pearls which grew as they will, as if the ring were its own small vegetable garden. There is a beauty in the wildness of the design that differs so drastically from the symmetry of other pieces from its time. These types of rings are extremely rare and coveted by vintage jewelry collectors, and I am thrilled to be able to offer this beautiful example here. This ring comes to us from Berlin, Germany and consists of a substantial 14k yellow gold setting, adorned with 18k leaves and gemstones which are set in platinum. It features a 5mm bezel set garnet, a 5.2mm cultured pearl with white body color and pink overtones; and an assortment of Old Mine Cut, single cut, and rose cut diamonds with a total carat weight of 0.33ctw, H/I color, and VS2/SI1 clarity. There are some slight abrasions on the garnet, commensurate with age. This ring weighs a substantial 9 grams and measures a 23mm x 15mm in total, looking very impressive on the hand. It is currently a size 6.5 and can be easily sized by a trusted jeweler. This ring has been evaluated and appraised by an Appraiser/GIA Graduate Gemologist at a value of $5,500 and comes with an appraisal which will be made out in the name of the buyer.
