This captivatingly moody late Georgian/early Victorian ring comes to us from Berlin, Germany and is named for Imogene, the herione in Vincenzo Bellini's opera Il pirata, which premiered in 1827. It is crafted from 14k yellow gold and silver, into which are set three rose cut diamonds in closed back settings. It is beautifully inscribed inside with the initials E.F.St. The oxidation of the silver behind the stone creates a gorgeous darkening effect on the stone. Three small diamonds are missing from this ring, and due to the very specific shapes of their setting and the age of the piece, I would not recommend the tampering that replacing them would entail. The buyer who is meant for this piece will love it as it is, and will find gratifying romance in the wear and tear that this marvelous piece of history has endured during its nearly 200 years on this earth. This ring is extremely well made and sturdy, weighs 3.2 grams, and was made to be enjoyed for generations to come. The oxidized areas where the diamonds would have been, blend in very nicely with the existing darkened diamonds, creating a very pleasing look that almost looks intentional. I'm also fascinated by intentional asymmetry of the way the diamonds were placed. This ring measures 8.2mm wide at its largest and tapers down to 2.7mm at the bottom of the band. It sits flat against the fingers, rising 2.2mm at its highest. This ring is currently a size 7.5 and can be easily sized by a trusted jeweler, though I would not recommend sizing down more than 2 sizes.
